“Seniors to Seniors” Program ~ An exciting collaboration with the varsity football team began in early 2009. This program matches the community’s youth with the elderly. In May, the high school athletes offer a community care day to the senior citizens – providing general yard work in preparation for the summer months. Occasionally, groups from the team visit the Center on Tuesday to help provide the weekly senior lunch. To reciprocate, the senior citizens prepared and served the football team their first “Team Feed” – a Thursday pregame meal that has become a tradition before every Friday football game. More “Seniors to Seniors” events are planned for the future.
“Seniors to Seniors” Community Care Day – May 19 has been chosen for the third annual Community Care Day. Through this partnership with the High School Football Program, the players will volunteer their Saturday morning to assist Canal Winchester senior citizens with various outside chores to help ready their homes for the summer months. Assistance can include weeding gardens, planting flowers, washing windows, and cleaning porches. For more information or to sign up, please contact the Community Center at 837-8276.
“Fitness and Wellness Program” ~Thanks to grant funding , we pleased to offer a Fitness and Wellness Program to all member of the Senior Citizens Club. Join us for "Stretch & Strengthening" every Wednesday and Chair Yoga every Thursday.

In recent years, Canal Winchester Human Services has been pleased to find funding opportunities that serve the senior citizen population. With more than 200 seniors actively using our Senior Transportation Program, we believe supporting opportunities that benefit the elderly in a positive, social way is a great partnership.
Day Trips ~ Thanks to special funding from the Franklin County Office of Aging administered through the Clintonville Recreation Center, and in partnership with the Canal Winchester Community Center, we are pleased to provide day trips. Each month we are able to offer two or three social opportunities that have included visits to the Columbus Zoo, Museum of Art, Franklin Park Conservatory, and shopping trips. We also enjoy performances at the Ohio and Palace Theatres as well as movies, and musical performances at Picnic with the Pops.
To participate, you must be 55 years or older, live in Fairfield or Franklin County and be a member in good standing of the Canal Winchester Senior Citizens’ Club. For more information, or to sign up for an upcoming day trip, please contact the Community Center at 614-837-8276.
Computers for Seniors ~ Thanks to a generous contribution from David Evangelical Lutheran Church and others, we were able to establish a computer lab for the benefit of senior citizens. Available during the regular operating hours of the Community Center, seniors are welcome to peruse the internet, correspond through email and use the full capabilities that Microsoft Word offers. The community center staff can offer general assistance when needed.
